Nepal
Everybody of course hopes that things are changing in
Nepal: Yes, we can! Ho, hami sakchau! But unfortunately the
most important question is now: how stable is the new government
and when is the government going to fall? The coalitionpartners
are continuously fighting and discussing and there is a lot
of mistrust. Next to that there are big problems with the
electricity. 16 hours a day NO electricity, that is normal
nowadays. But it is causing a lot of trouble in the daily
life of Swarga and is giving the new national excuse: Sorry,
no electricity, come back tomorrow.
Swarga
A lot to tell. With the children everything fine. They continuously
ask for me and the first question for Krishna was, where is
Joyce miss? When is she coming back? I am happy to hear everything
goes fine, but I miss them a lot. Last week I had Sabin on
the Phone and he was so happy. Sabin had his Pratabhanda,
a maturing ceremony, boys get it on their 7th, 9th or 11th
age. Normally it is a ceremony organized for as many people
as possible, but with Sabin only with family. Krishna and
our staff was also invited. See the website for a nice picture
of 'mature'Sabin.
The operation of Damber went well, last week her plaster got
removed and now she has to practice a lot again to get her
leg straight. Chandra also has been to the hospital to ampute
her small toes. They grew not straight and made walking more
and more difficult for Chandra. Rachita again got a phenol
injection, so her tight muscles are temporarily relieved.
With extra physiotherapy she will hopefully be able to walk
better.
The most important and unexpected news we got after the return
of Krishna: Lata, our physiotherapist decided to quit in our
place. She started a course and has plans to go to a foreign
country. "This is Nepal" , things go like this and we have
to postpone our expansionplans for a moment. The most important
is the physio for our own kids, so we are first looking for
a physio who can give treatment to our kids. We found her!
But a fulltime physio is probably going to take more time,
as they are rare….
Swarga daycare
We are going to expand with the Daycare, next time more
info about the progressment of the SDC-kids.
Birthdays
Roshani: 21st of february
Volunteers
In January Peter Dijkhuizen helped us, in February he is going
to help Raje in the Daycare. You can follow his stories on
his weblog www.pdijkhuizen.waarbenjij.nu In february are going
to work in Swarga, Jolanda Althuis en Gijs Bekenkamp, www.jolandaalthuis.reisdagboek.net.
Netherlands
In the three months with Krishna, we cooked 28 dinners
for 500 people. Again it was a big success. Till my going
on the 12th of April, people still can book me, so don't wait!!
A lot of other people are organizing programmes for us: Peter
Dijkhuizen is fundraising among his friends and family. Reflexo
Inkomensmanagement has bought cd's from Intrioduction as a
relation gift. Together with the two people of Intrioduction,
Harry Happel en Marjoleine Leene, they made a nice donation
to us.
Still in 2008, the Martinuscollege from Grootebroek did a
lot of programmes or us: sponsorwalk, work for money, workshops.
This all as part of the big sponsor cycletour Remco Kooistra
en Petra Bakker are going to do from March 1st. See their
preparartions and travel stories on www.voorbijdepolders.nl
We got one year of diapers from Stichting Charitas Oisterwijk.
For those who follow us from the beginning, this is monthly
a big regular expenditure, so we are very happy with this!
The coming months I'm going to give some lectures: at the
Schutterssgilde Sint Hubertus, who are going to give us also
a nice cheque. At the Soroptimsten Roosendaal, a woman service
club. I have the chance to talk elaborately about Suvadra
and Swarga.
Corine van de Broek, who together with her partner Fons, sister
Annemieke and zwager William comes to us, organises a big
birthday party where she is not asking any presents for herself,
but donations for us! Nice initiatives, but needed badly when
we want to make a start with our expansionplan, you have about
that in the year report of 2008.
Sunday, the 5th of April, there is again the Eastermarket
in de Anbarg in Etten-Leur. Where we again have Nepali things
to sell, easter chickens from Ria, so come!! Don't forget
you still can order our beautiful Suvadra cards at info@suvadra.com
Suitable for all kinds of events. Look for more information
on www.suvadra.com
Board of the Netherlands
I want to introduce our new board to you, they do that
themselves.
Gudula van Nispen tot Pannerden, Vice president; "I
am living in Breda and work in the company of my partner as
commercial administrative employee. Next to that I'm taking
care of several website, among the one from Suvadra. It is
fantastic to be in this way closely connected to the project
of Joyce. Joyce, the mother of the project, and I met on hockeyclub
Push in Breda. She worked together with me on the project
for physically disabled children, to let them play regular
fieldhockey. With enthusiasm I want to work with the other
boardmember for Suvadra. I didn't have the opportunity yet
to go myself to Nepal to see the project for myself, but when
you see the pictures on the site, you can see the happiness
of the children. The biggest advantage of this project is
that it is on a small scale basis. Every day is a new faith
in happiness, joy and a smile for life".
Ad Grool: treasurer "Ad Grool is my name. Last year
I traveld a month in Nepal. Especially in the Himalaya, but
also in the Kathmandu Valley. Our place to stay there was
in Bhaktapur. I also visited Children Home Swarga. Back home
I wanted to give my time to this wonderful initiative of Joyce
and Krishna. Because I am originally an economist, it was
clear I was to become the new treasurer. Suvadra is fully
depending on gifts from Netherland. So it is also important
to be transparent about the expending of that money.
Margreet Schulting:secretary "I started as a nurse, was
a fulltime mother for years and now working on a school for
healthcare education. I have two kids. The oldest, Suzanne,
worked in Swarga as a physiotherapist. I went to Nepal as well
and saw from close what she was doing there. This made a big
impression on me. Back home i knew that I wanted to do something
for Swarga, but not what. When i read the message about new
boardmembers, i knew the answer. I don't have any experience
as a boardmember, but i hope to contribute with my life experiences
and enthusiasm.
Michelle de Vries: members "Writing about myself i find
always very difficult, but since Joyce asked…..I am Michelle
de Vries, married to Erik and mother of 3 wonderful boys. Tim
8 years, Stijn 7 years and Wout just became 1. We live in Prinsenbeek.
I'm not working at the moment but I am taking care fulltime
for our three little man, Tim is slightly autistic and with
a small kid that is occupying a lot of time. Till the birth
of Stijn I worked with mentally and physically disabled people.
The work of Joyce is not unknown for me. I met her through the
physically disabled hockeyteam of Push where we trained children
who couldn't play in a regular team. Also there she was very
enthusiastic and active for this target group. From the moment
Joyce went to Nepal I followed her stories, I think it is great
what she is doing there for the kids. When Joyce asked to be
the secretary of the Foundation 4 years ago, I didn't hesitate.
Now I don't have that much time anymore, but i stay member of
the board and want to participate when necessary"
Wim Muys: PR and Communication "Wim Muijs is born in
1946 in Amsterdam and as a profession always busy with sales
and management. In 2006 he made a tour to Nepal en Tibet and
was very impressed. The combination with the contact with Joyce,
at the same moment, made him enthusiastic to do something for
the kids of Suvadra. By being a member of the board of Stichting
Suvadra Nederland he found the way to activily work for the
welfare and happiness of the Swarga-kids" Wim is going to cooperate
with my father Kees Maas.
Joyce van Rijen: president of the board And you know already
all from me.
Child of the month
Deepa Lama Deepa is with us from November 2007. She also
has CP, cerebral palsy. By her late coming to us, she already
has contractures in knee and hip, mainly on her right side.
She is in the Daycare with us, is happy, likes to sing, but
absolutely not from doctors and dentists. Every day she is
getting physiotherapy to avoid more contractures and to build
up her independence.
