April
It is already April and within a month I’m back in The
Netherlands again, time went very fast. In Nepal the situation
is still very unstable, there are a lot of strikes and there
is still a shortage of gas and fuel. Luckily for Nepal and
‘our’ restaurant (Heart of Bhaktapur) tourists
are coming.
`Swarga`
In Swarga we are not standing still; no. 8 came, Asmita Tamang,
4 years. A cheerful girl whose problem wasn’t clear
at the beginning. Now she has the same diagnose as Sabin,
cerebral palsy, but our Asmita is eager to learn and quick
in catching up things. Fast she knew she has to say ‘welcome’
after ‘thank you’. She is complementary to our
group. Thanks to the visits to different organizations and
us being on the radio more applications come. It has not succeeded
in filling our last two seats, but that will happen soon for
sure. We also welcome our second ‘didi’: Kalpana,
mother of Chandra, she will help Tulasha in cooking, cleaning
and taking care of the children. Sometimes we can welcome
people in our ‘Swarga’ family, but sometimes we
also have to say goodbye: our physiotherapist Ram Tiwari,
he found another job. We are very sad about this, also because
it is very hard to find a physiotherapist in Nepal. Luckily
we get temporary help from The Netherlands, Yvonne Both comes
to help us out for a month. Binita had her operation and is
recovering from this. We hope she comes back soon, we miss
her. While the rest is making their exams, she has to make
them in the hospital. In the holiday between two school years
we are going for outing, at the same time we make it a parent-guardian
day.
Volunteers
31st of March we said goodbye to Lieke Peters, she has us
and the school for more than one month. Thanks! We also almost
have to say goodbye to Kim Verkaar. Both are traveling in
Nepal for a while, before they go back again to The Netherlands.
10th of April we are going to pick up Yvonne Both, physiotherapist,
from the airport. She is experienced, lived for years in Nepal,
knows the culture and the language very good and because of
that she can use her time as optimal as possible. What is
Kim saying about us: We were also very happy to have dentists
Lian Donkers, Vincent Tijssen and dentist assistant Yvonne
Verheyen of NOHS (Netherland Oral Health Society). This foundation
organizes 2 times a year a dental camp in Nepal and also paid
us a visit. The teeth are checked and we hope this will happen
every year. I don’t tell it often, but we sometimes
can mention the fact that we also have sometimes Nepali volunteers:
our food and milk is free delivered every day. Small medical
treatments are done by Roshani Shrestha, the wife of Krishna
and for all kinds of small things we can ask Kiran Gainju.
Room rent
Next to our volunteers, who rent our rooms, there are three
students coming in April from the Art High school in Utrecht.
They are going to make an educational dvd about health with
and for children in Nepal and are coming to ‘live’
for two months in ‘Swarga’. See their website
http://kidsontop.hku.nl.
Activities in The Netherlands
In March there were the following activities:
The lottery of the KVO on the 7th of March was a big success,
just as the cycling discussing evening in Wouw. De Molenrijders
celebrated their 35th anniversary. This happened with a cycling
discussion evening where old cycling heroes, like Cees Haast,
Frits Pirard, Cees Bal and Jacques van Meer, paid a visit.
For the people who love cycling there were a lot of cycling
stories and remarkable comments. The good cause this touring
club chose this year was Stichting Suvadra. With donor euros,
an American sell and a lottery a nice amount was raised. We
again are very thankful for that.
In april:
1 April: easter fair in the Anbarg in Etten-leur
15 April: family cycling tour organized by KVO: cycling for
25 kilometers in the neighbourhood of Breda and being sportive.
On the way not only enjoy the beautiful surrounding, but also
answering questions, playing a game and doing tasks. This
is on the 15th of April. The route is through Princenhage,
Liesbos, Prinsenbeek, Effen and Etten-Leur. You can start
between 12 and 1 o’clock at the residence of Sia Prinse,
addresse Sprundelsebaan 35 in Breda. The starting fee is 3
euro per person and 1,50 for primary school children. Not
only KVO members can start, everybody can join, because the
more people, the more money is being raised for Suvadra. The
ones who scores best in answering the questions, the games
and the task gets a small price. With doubtful weather people
can call with Sia( 06-51352902) or Annette (06-13532044) to
check whether the tour continues. Make your admission now!
21st of April: sponsor cycling tour by Johan Damen; he is
going to cycle the tour version of the Amstel Gold Race. We
can support him by sponsoring kilometers. For more information
keep checking our website.
30th April: Oranjemarket in Etten-Leur
12th of May: Medi-marathon at Medisport te Etten-Leur: You
can apply from NOW!
See you next time!
